Hi @tronikos, sorry for not getting back to you more quickly!
I think ORB_EPHEMERAL_MODE is an interesting addition, but I'm not sure about adding it as a default for everyone. This option is largely for routers where the flash really doesn't support many write cycles. Considering this is meant for a Docker setup probably running on a normal SSD, the writes are really quite limited and there are nice benefits from persisting the data on disk.

I'm trying to see if we might be able to make it configurable inside Home Assistant, like we do for various other settings.
